MCA registration packets available
MOUNT CARMEL - Packets for registration in the Mount Carmel Area Pre-K Counts and kindergarten programs can be picked up in the elementary school office between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. All forms and information will be provided in the packet.
Children entering Pre-K Counts program must be four years old by Sept. 1, 2014. Students must meet the federal guidelines of the Pre-K Counts Grant. Students entering kindergarten must be five years old by Sept. 1, 2014.
All forms and information must be complete before the child will be registered. Once completed, parents or guardians must call the office for an appointment. Appointment dates are Thursday, Feb. 20; Tuesday, March 25, and Wednesday, April 30, from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Low-cost eyeglasses program set
SHAMOKIN - A low-cost eyeglasses clinic will be held at Central Susquehanna Opportunities in Shamokin, 2 E. Arch St., from 9 to 11 a.m. Feb. 11, and at Sunbury CareerLink, 225 Market St., Sunbury, from 1 to 3 p.m. Feb. 11.
Northwestern PA Optical Clinic is a privately funded program that provides income eligible persons with eyeglasses for $40, which includes bifocals and solid tint. No-lines are available at an additional cost.
Income guidelines for one person is $21,032 and for two people is $27,992; the limit increases by $6,960 for each additional person in the household.
After selecting frames and having lenses measured, customers can pay by cash or money order. The glasses will be shipped to the lab for assembly and then sent back by mail.
