Snow emergency in Kulpmont

KULPMONT - Mayor Myron Turlis announced a snow emergency will be in effect beginning at 5 p.m. Friday along Route 61 (Chestnut Street).

Parking will be prohibited from 5 p.m. until the snow stops and is plowed back to the curb by PennDOT. Violaters will have their vehicles ticketed and/or towed at the owner's expense.

Parking ban in Mount Carmel

MOUNT CARMEL - Mount Carmel Mayor J. Kevin Jones said a parking ban will be in effect from 5 to 9 a.m. Saturday for snow removal on Oak Street (Route 61)

Residents are asked to remove their vehicles on Oak Street from Avenue to Sixth Street.

Jobs available for seniors

The Experience Works Senior Community Service Employment Program (SCSEP) is accepting applications from people age 55 or older for seven current job openings.

Applicants must be unemployed, live in Columbia or Northumberland counties and have incomes of $13,964 per year or less ($18,913 for family of two).

Experience Works SCSEP is available at no cost to people who meet eligibility criteria. The program provides paid community service assignments at local public and non-profit organizations, training, referral to needed services and job search assistance. With updated skills, participants use their community services, and job search training as a springboard to permanent jobs with local employees.
