Snow emergency in Kulpmont
KULPMONT - Mayor Myron F. Turlis declared a snow emergency along Route 61 (Chestnut Street) in the borough effective 11 p.m. today.
Parking is prohibited along Chestnut Street until the snow stops and is plowed back to the curb by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation.
Violators will have their vehicles ticketed and/or towed at the owner's expense.
No parking on Oak Street Wednesday
MOUNT CARMEL - Borough residents are reminded not to park on Oak Street from 6 a.m. to noon Wednesday for snow removal. Citizens are also reminded not to pile snow around fire hydrants, and are asked to clear snow away from fire hydrants near their homes, if they are able to do so.
Ambulance subscription drive
ELYSBURG - The Elysburg Fire Department and Emergency Medical Services annual ambulance subscription drive continues.
Due to a printing error, the dates on the 2010 flyers are incorrect. This year's subscription is valid from Jan. 1, 2010, until Dec. 31, 2010.
The cost of a single subscription is $35; a family subscription costs $50. Anyone who has not received a subscription flyer and would like one is asked to call the fire department at 672-2920.
Mount Carmel Area closed Monday
MOUNT CARMEL - The Mount Carmel Area School District will be closed Monday in observance of President's Day.
Scholarships available for MCA grads
MOUNT CARMEL - MC4A, The Mount Carmel Area Athletic Alumni Association, would like to remind college students from the Mount Carmel Area School District to apply for one of six scholarships valued from $1,500 to $2,000.
The deadline for completed applications is July 15. To apply, applicants must have completed at least one year of college and/or school of higher learning. The annual meeting, lottery drawing and dinner will be Wednesday, Aug. 11. Go to www.MC4A.org for additional information.
