HARRISBURG - Pennsylvania's Low-Income Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) began accepting applications for cash grants Monday, announced Reps. Merle Phillips (R-Northumberland/Snyder) and Russ Fairchild (R-Snyder/Union). Crisis grants will be available Jan. 4.
LIHEAP helps low-income people pay heating bills through home energy assistance grants and crisis grants. Cash grants are awarded based on household income, family size, type of heating fuel and equipment, or leaking lines that must be fixed or replaced, lack of fuel, termination of utility service or danger of being without fuel or of having utility service terminated.
For applications or more information, contact the Northumberland County Assistance Office, 320 Chestnut St., Sunbury, at 988-5996 or 800-332-8583, or Snyder County Assistance Office at 570 South High St., Selinsgrove, at 621-3072 or 866-713-8584. Residents may also call the toll-free LIHEAP hotline at 866-857-7095. Individuals with hearing impairments may call 800-451-5886. LIHEAP cash grant applications are available online at compass.state.pa.us. Applications are also available from local utility companies and community service agencies.
Individuals with an income of less that $16,245, couples earning less than $21,855 and families of four earning less than $33,075 are encouraged to check their eligibility for the program.
