Train layout under construction
BLOOMSBURG - Visitors to the two large model-railroad displays this weekend at the Columbia Mall will get to see how train layouts are built, step-by-step.
The Loose Ties model railroad society of the Susquehanna Valley is rebuilding parts of its 28-by-12-foot display. Dozens of society members will rebuild and redesign the display's large section for HO-gauge trains, and will answer questions and offer free handouts about the process.
The Loose Ties layout, across from the Pearle Vision Center at the Sears end of the mall, will be open from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. today.
The handicapped-accessible Wheelchair Engineers layout, which has a new website at www.wheelchairengineers.org, allows children and adults to run its trains, blow its whistles and play with railroad accessories such as an operating helicopter, milk car and cattle car.
