Seminar focuses on China v. India
LEWISBURG - Swaran Singh will give the talk, "China and India: Friends or Foes?" at 7 p.m. Thursday in the Gallery Theatre of the Elaine Langone Center at Bucknell University.
The talk, which is free and open to the public, is sponsored by Zhiqun Zhu, the MacArthur Chair in East Asian Politics at Bucknell, with support from the departments of political science and international relations.
"India and China are two emerging powers and the growth engines of the world today," said Zhu. "Even the current global economic meltdown has not dented their rapid growth."
A distinguished professor of diplomacy and disarmament at Jawaharlal Nehru University in New Delhi, Singh is also president of the New Delhi-based Association of Asia Scholars and General Secretary of the Indian Association of Asian and Pacific Studies.
Art historian to discuss monument
SELINSGROVE - Art historian Dr. Valerie Livingston will present a lecture, "Resurrecting American Heroes in the Art of Sculpture," at 6 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 25, in Art History Room 206 of Cunningham Center for Music and Art, located in the center of Susquehanna University's campus.
Her lecture will focus on Selinsgrove's Governor Snyder Monument, created by 19th century artist George E. Bissell. The illustrated talk will discuss an historical background of outdoor commemorative sculpture, its stylistic role in American art and current issues in providing for the future longevity of such a valued treasure.
The public is welcome.
