Northumberland County OKs tax-break ordinance
SUNBURY - At a public hearing Tuesday, Northumberland County commissioners unanimously passed a Local Economic Revitalization Tax Assistance (LERTA) ordinance.
Read by solicitor Frank Garrigan, the ordinance would prevent property owners from being assessed a higher tax rate for 10 years if they purchase and make improvements to dilapidated properties.
When the issue was first discussed in May, Commissioner Stephen Bridy, said the intent is to give business owners incentive to reinvest in their properties.
No citizen input was given during the public hearing at which the ordinance was approved.
