SHAMOKIN - No bids were submitted for an empty lot for sale downtown

The city had advertised it was accepting sealed bids, with a minimum bid of $20,000, until March 5 for 320-322 E. Independence St. The lot, measuring 32-by-110 feet, is between EyeSense and the former Sports Center between Rock and Washington streets. A fire-damaged building that had stood there was knocked down by the city years ago. The demolition was funded by a state grant.

The city purchased the lot through a private sale with the Northumberland County Tax Office Oct. 28, 2011. The purchase required a minimum bid of $1.

The city has the option to readvertise, but it's not known yet if it will.
