NCCTC students compete at conference
COAL TOWNSHIP - Several students in the culinary arts and occupational child care programs at the Northumberland County Career and Technology Center (NCCTC) competed in the Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) State Leadership Conference in Lancaster March 19 to 21 and came away with medals.
The event was held at the Lancaster Host Resort Conference Center, with the culinary competition being held at the YTI institute.
Winning in the occupational child care program was Brooke Sajuit, who won a bronze medal in early Childhood and a $2,000 scholarship. The team of Brianne Wengrenovich, Elizabeth Bensinger and Nicole Wyland took silver in the interpersonal communications catagory.
Dana Madl, Tabitha Demsko and Nick Davis won a silver medal in the culinary team competition, John Thompson took silver in food and beverage service and Caitlin Fellin took silver in baking.
All of the students are from the Shamokin Area School District.
Culinary arts instructor Jim Schiavoni was named the "FCCLA Adviser of the Year" and presented with a plaque. Student Alexis Pauzer is the central region state officer for the FCCLA. Gwen Spurr is the occupation child care instructor at NCCTC.
