Montandon woman named Outstanding Older Worker
SUNBURY - Helen "Peg" Rowe, of Montandon, has been chosen by the Northumberland County Area Agency on Aging as the "Outstanding Older Worker Award" winner for 2012.
The 83-year-old Rowe was presented a certificate and monetary gift Tuesday afternoon by Northumberland County Commissioners Stephen Bridy, Vinny Clausi and Richard Shoch and the Area Agency on Aging. "National Employ Older Worker's Week" was celebrated Sept. 23 to 29. The special week recognizes the vital role of older workers throughout the state.
Rowe, who was nominated for the award by Chris Schmouder, has been an employee at Pardoe's Perky Peanuts Inc., Montandon, for 49 years. She started in 1963 when the company started making peanuts. She would use a shot glass to fill a one-ounce bag of nuts and became known as "Peanut Packing Peggy." She has continued to be a valuable employee and is still the best at putting together cards of small nut packs.
In her free time, Rowe volunteers at her church and Evangelical Community Hospital in Lewisburg. She enjoys spending time with her husband, Leon, and playing pinochle in her card club.
The agency received three nominations for the award. Each nominee received a certificate of recognition and was commended for working as a productive, valuable and helpful senior citizen.
