Miss Pa., Mahoney Bros. will join Shamokin's 150th
SHAMOKIN - In addition to Olympic medalist Jayson Terdiman, Miss Pennsylvania and the Mahoney Brothers will also be in the city for its 150th anniversary celebration July 5.
The 150th Anniversary Committee and Fifth Ward Parade Committee said the new Miss Pennsylvania, who will be crowned June 15, will be present to draw the winning ticket for the 2014 Camaro being raffled as part of the celebration. The drawing will take place at 10 a.m. that Saturday at a large stage that will be erected at the east end of Independence Street.
The winner of the Camaro will drive the vehicle as grand marshal for that day's 150th anniversary parade, which will begin at 2 p.m. at the corner of Shamokin and Willow streets in the city's Fifth Ward.
Shortly after the winning ticket is drawn, the Mahoney Brothers, famous for its Beatles tribute shows and currently doing a "JukeBox Heroes Live" tour, will begin their concert. Beatles music will be featured because this year marks the 50th anniversary of the band's arrival in New York.
Independence Street will be closed to vehicles throughout the day to allow for entertainment, a morning car show and the parade.
Shamokin's annual July 4th weekend fireworks show will cap off the day.
The committee is selling 7,000 chances at $10 each for the Camaro, which is being provided by B&L Chevrolet, Coal Township.
