MCA Elks Students of the Month, November
The following Mount Carmel Area students were awarded Elks Students of the Month in November.
Senior Student of the Month is Danny Fletcher, a son of Patrick and Diane Fletcher. Fletcher is a member of varsity wrestling, baseball, boys soccer, the Chem club and Odyssey of the Mind. He is a past recipient of the Scholar Athlete Award and Academy Sports Award for wrestling and a recipient of the "Who's Who among Outstanding Students" award. His plans on attending a four-year college to pursue a medical degree.
Junior Student of the Month is 11th-grade student, Ali Varano, a daughter of Rob and Lisa Varano. Varano is a member of soccer, basketball, track and field and cross country. She is on the distinguished honor roll and plans to attend a four-year college to major in pre-med.
The Teen of the Month is eighth-grade student, Madeleine Lyash, a daughter of Kevin and Eve Lyash, of Mount Carmel. Her activities include pep club, art club, student council, Relay for Life, chorus and the TIES after school program. Her previous awards include Jr. High Pride, Elks Student of the Month and Who's Who Among Jr. High Students, and she placed second at the CSIU Computer Fair in graphic design. Her interests include scrapbooking, drawing, watching television and listening to music. Her future plans are to attend college to study law.
The Junior Teen of the Month is 7th-grade student Sarah Cooper, a daughter of Cheryl and Richard Cooper, of Kulpmont. Cooper plays basketball and is a member of Cougars cheerleading. She participates in gymnastics and karate, and is an alter server and choir singer for Holy Angels Church. Cooper is a distinguished honors student and is a previous merit award winner. Some of her interests include cooking, baking, playing the piano and hanging out with friends and family. Her future plans are to become a lawyer.
