MOUNT CARMEL - The Mount Carmel Area High School Elks awards for October have been announced.

Student of the month is senior Luke Duceman, a son of Chris and Dot Blase, of Mount Carmel, and Rich Duceman, of Aristes. He is president and drum major of the marching band, member of the symphonic, jazz and pep bands, vice president of chorus and participates in the school musical. He is an anchor, reporter and assistant editor of news reporting, president of the Spanish club and a Haunted High student adviser. He works as a waiter at May's Drive-In and is a musician at Knoebels Amusement Resort. He has qualified for the PMEA District 8, Region IV Band and District 8 Jazz Band. He participated in the Susquehanna University Honors Band. In past years, Duceman was named the MCA Marching Band Rookie of the Year and Outstanding Musician. He is a previous Elks Junior Teen of the year and is in the National Honor Society. He enjoys music, singing, reading and writing. He plans to attend college to major in music education.

Junior student of the month is Paige Domboski, a daughter of Kerra and Todd of Domboski, of Mount Carmel. She is a member of the art club and works at Grayson's Ye Olde Butcher Shoppe. She is a member of the Junior Honor Society and has participated in Odyssey of the Mind and received an "OMER" Award for good sportsmanship. She enjoys reading novels, painting, crafting and sketching. She plans to attend college to study psychology and child development.

Teen of the month is Ben McFadden, a son of William and Ann McFadden, of Oak Ridge Estates. He plays football and basketball and participates in TV studio, band and Odyssey of the Mind. He is an altar server at Divine Redeemer Church and is in the Boy Scouts. McFadden has won the Elks pride award three times and has also received the Tornado pride award, the entrepreneurship challenge twice and advanced with his Odyssey of the Mind team. He is fascinated by computers and loves to read graphic novels. He hopes to be a physician or pursue a career in engineering.

Junior teen of the month is seventh-grader Ava McGee, a daughter of John and Elizabeth McGee, of Mount Carmel. She is on the cross country, basketball and AYSO soccer teams and participates in Odyssey of the Mind and gymnastics. She is a previous merit award winner and is on the distinguished honor roll. Her interests include art. She plans to pursue a career in the medical field.
