Master's degree from Penn State
HARRISBURG - Mark H. Shade, a 1982 graduate of Shamokin Area High School and a 1986 graduate of Elizabethtown College, received his Master of Arts in the humanities from The Pennsylvania State University-Harrisburg Sunday, May 11, during a graduation ceremony in Hershey.
Shade is employed as a writer and press secretary for the Pennsylvania Senate Democratic Caucus and works in the state Capitol in Harrisburg. Prior to this position, he worked as a journalist for several radio stations; the online news service, Captiolwire.com; as the director of communications for the PA Department of Community and Economic Development; a deputy communications director for Gov. Edward G. Rendell, and as a freelance reporter for Reuters.
The Shamokin graduate's mother, Judy Shade, his aunt, Carole Gonzaga and girlfriend, Regina Hession, attended the graduation ceremony in the Giant Center at Hersheypark.
More than 13,000 Penn State students graduated university-wide May 11. Thomas J. Lynch, chairman and chief executive officer at TE Connectivity, delivered the keynote address for PSU-Harrisburg's graduation.
