BONITA SPRINGS, Fla. - Michelle Patrick, a doctor of veterinary medicine, has accepted the position of head of internal medicine at Southwest Florida Veterinary Specialists in Bonita Springs.

Patrick is a 2002 graduate of Susquehanna University and a 1998 graduate of Our Lady of Lourdes High School. She is a daughter of Patricia and Michael Patrick, of Coal Township.

Also a 2006 graduate of the University of Pennsylvania, she completed her rotating internship in small animal medicine and surgery at Veterinary Specialists of South Florida in 2007, and her three-year residency in small animal internal medicine at Washington State University in 2010.

"We are excited to broaden our range of veterinary services and feel that pet owners and veterinarians will greatly benefit from the services Patrick will be providing," said Dr. Wendy Arsenault, owner and board-certified cardiologist at Southwest Florida Veterinary Specialists. "If an animal's disease is uncommon, complicated or undiagnosed after standard testing, or if an animal requires a sophisticated procedure not usually provided by a general veterinary practitioner, an internal medicine specialty care provider is a valuable resource to help diagnose and treat the condition, and achieve a greater quality of life for that pet."

Some of the services that Patrick will offer include abdominal ultrasound, high definition endoscopy including upper and lower GI, bronchoscopy, rhinoscopy, cystoscopy and foreign body retrieval, feeding tube placement, fine needle/bone marrow aspirates, cytology, diabetes mellitus regulation, chemotherapy and parenteral nutrition.
