STROUDSBURG - A jury has found Thomas Senavitis not guilty of homicide by vehicle after nearly five and a half hours of deliberation and asking the judge twice for explanations of the law.

Senavitis, 46, of Pohopoco Drive, Kunkletown, was facing homicide by vehicle/DUI, homicide by vehicle and other charges stemming from a car accident involving state Sen. James J. Rhoades on Oct. 17, 2008. The senator was fatally injured in the wreck on Route 209 near Brodheadsville and died at Lehigh Valley Hospital, Allentown, the following day.

Shortly before 5:30 p.m. Monday, the jury returned its verdict of not guilty on the most serious charges. They found him guilty of lesser charges.
