PAXINOS - A Shamokin woman has died from injuries suffered in a two-vehicle crash Sunday morning at the Brewery Curve on Route 61 south of here.

Margery F. Stametz, 79, of 280 Mountain Road, died at 2 a.m. Monday at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville, where she was taken for treatment following the accident.

Coal Township police reported Stametz was operating a 2004 Subaru Legacy south at approximately 8:45 a.m. when her vehicle slid on the icy road. It crossed the median and was struck on the passenger side by a 2005 GMC operated by Carolyn Willis, 64, of Elysburg, who was traveling north on Route 61.

The accident was one of many caused by a freezing rain storm Sunday morning.

Both Stametz and Willis were transported to Shamokin Area Community Hospital (SACH). Stametz was later transferred to Geisinger. Willis was treated for her injuries and released from SACH.

Both vehicles had to be towed from the scene.
