Motorists traveling Interstate 80 in Columbia County are advised that the rehabilitation project between Buckhorn and Lime Ridge, exits 232 and 241, will resume starting today following its winter shutdown.

Here is the work scheduled:

I-80 westbound from Lime Ridge to Buckhorn: The contractor will be filling existing shoulder rumble strips and repainting lines in preparation for paving work. This work will require one-lane daylight traffic patterns. Motorists should expect some minor delays between exits 241 and 232.

I-80 eastbound just east of the Buckhorn Interchange: The contractor will be eradicating and painting traffic lines in preparation for lanes shifts in the area of the Fishing Creek Bridge. This work will require traffic to be reduced to one lane during daylight hours. The contractor will also be setting concrete barrier. Once the barrier is set, both eastbound lanes will be shifted approximately 10 feet to the right.

Route 42 from the Interstate 80 overpass, northward (Columbia Mall area): The contractor will eradicate existing traffic lines and repaint new patterns to shift all traffic to the middle section of Route 42 (Mall Boulevard). Traffic will be maintained in one lane in each direction during construction. Today, the main entrance to the Columbia Mall will be closed in order to reconstruct Route 42 through that area. The entrance will be closed until approximately April 9. All traffic wishing to enter the mall may do so by using the mall's north entrance. A temporary traffic signal will also be placed into service at the north mall entrance to accommodate the increased mall traffic during construction. This signal will remain in operation until this fall.

Motorists will encounter many different operations on the Route 42 project and are reminded to be alert to changing traffic patterns and read the detour signing that will be in place.

This begins the second of two years' construction under this $38 million contract, with Glenn O. Hawbaker Inc. as the prime contractor.

PennDOT reminds motorists they can log on to 511pa.com or call 511 from any phone to check interstate traffic conditions before heading out.
