Several churches have announced their schedules for Holy Week, heading up to Easter Sunday.

Grace and St. Paul Lutheran

Grace Lutheran Church, West Chestnut Street, Shamokin, and St. Paul Lutheran Church, Gowen City will hold joint services during Holy Week. The Rev. David M. Byerly is pastor for both congregations

A joint service of Word and Sacrament will be held at 7 p.m. Maundy Thursday at St. Paul. Walter Boyer is the organist with Pastor Byerly presiding and preaching. The service will conclude with the stripping of the altar in preparation for Good Friday.

The two congregations will observe Good Friday with a joint service Friday at 7 p.m. at Grace Lutheran Church. The solemn service will focus on Christ's passion and death on the cross. Walter Boyer is organist.

The two churches will hold a joint sunrise service on Easter morning in St. Paul Cemetery, Gowen City, beginning at 6:30 a.m. In case of rain, the service will be held in St. Paul Lutheran Church, Gowen City.

Coffee and donuts will be served in the St. Paul social hall following the service.

St. Paul will hold its regular Sunday worship service on Easter at 8:15 a.m. The Easter service of Word and Sacrament at Grace Church, Shamokin, will be held at 10:15 a.m.

The public is invited to attend any of the services.

St. Stephen's

St. Stephen's Church, Fourth and Maple Streets, Mount Carmel, will have a special Good Friday service at 6:30 p.m. The Holy Sabbath, the commemoration of the burial of the Lord will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. Saturday.

Easter service, the Solemn Mass of the Resurrection of the Lord, will be celebrated at 8:30 a.m. Sunday.

Bethel Union

Bethel Union Chapel, West Cameron Township, will hold their Good Friday service at 2 p.m. with special music provided by vocalist Kerry Seger.
