Helpers needed for Vietnam Memorial Moving Wall
THARPTOWN - The Vietnam Memorial Moving Wall will open at 4 p.m. Thursday, May 29, and close Monday, June 2. A special service will take place at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 31.
Motorcyclists are needed to accompany the 3/5th-scale traveling replica of the Washington, D.C., Vietnam Veterans Memorial from Danville to the Tharptown playground/soccer field complex upon its arrival to the area at 8 a.m. May 29.
Parking in the area is limited, so visitors are encouraged to use the free shuttle service that will pick up riders at Weis Markets in Shamokin every hour from 4 to 9 p.m. May 29 and from noon to 9 p.m. May 30 and June 1.
Visitors will receive free programs containing a list and photos of local soldiers whose names appear on the wall as well as information on the Medal of Honor recipients and women who lost their lives in the Vietnam War that were from Pennsylvania.
