Gordon man faces additional charges
RALPHO TOWNSHIP - A 19-year-old Gordon man already serving time in Schuylkill County Prison in Pottsville for allegedly molesting two young girls was arraigned Tuesday afternoon on similar offenses involving one of the same victims during a December incident in Elysburg.
Christopher Michael Turofski, of 107 Gordon St., was transported from the prison by Constable Patrick Reynolds to Ralpho Township Police Station, where he was arraigned via video at 3:30 p.m. by Magisterial District Judge Hugh Jones of Mount Carmel on a felony of corruption of minors and misdemeanors of indecent assault and indecent exposure.
The felony offense carries a maximum penalty of seven years incarceration and/or $15,000 fine. The misdemeanors each carry a maximum penalty of five years imprisonment and/or $10,000 fine.
Turofski is charged by Ralpho Township Cpl. Bryon Chowka with kneeling over the head of a 7-year-old girl and exposing his genitals as she was sleeping in a relative's home on Shamokin Avenue in late December.
Police said Turofski admitted committing the act during an interview with a state trooper Aug. 13.
The defendant was remanded to Schuylkill County Prison in lieu of $100,000 cash bail and was ordered by Jones to appear for a preliminary hearing at his office Oct. 16.
Turofski, who reserved comment when asked about the charges Tuesday afternoon, has been incarcerated since being arrested by Butler Township police Aug. 21 on two counts each of indecent assault, indecent exposure and corruption of minors relating to incidents at a Gordon home between Jan. 1 and July 2. The victims were 12 and 8 years of age at the time. The 8-year-old victim is the same girl Turofski is accused of indecently assaulting in Ralpho Township last year.
