Gordon man, 19, charged with indecent contact waives hearing
MOUNT CARMEL - A 19-year-old Gordon man charged with having indecent contact with a 7-year-old girl in Elysburg in December waived his right to a preliminary hearing Wednesday afternoon and was remanded to Schuylkill County Prison, where is serving time for a similar offense committed in Butler Township.
Christopher Michael Turofski, of 107 Gordon St., was ordered by Magisterial District Judge Hugh Jones to appear for plea court Nov. 25 at Northumberland County Courthouse, Sunbury, after waiving a felony charge of corruption of minors and misdemeanors of indecent assault and indecent exposure.
At plea court, Turofski can plead guilty or no contest, or seek a trial by pleading not guilty.
He was represented at the legal proceeding by county public defender Paige Rosini. First assistant district attorney Ann Targonski prosecuted the case.
Turofski, who was arraigned on the offenses last week by Jones, is charged by Ralpho Township Cpl. Bryon Chowka with kneeling over the head of a 7-year-old girl and exposing his genitals as she was sleeping in a relative's home on Shamokin Avenue in late December.
Police said Turofski admitted committing the act during an interview with a state trooper Aug. 13.
The felony offense carries a maximum penalty of seven years incarceration and/or $15,000 fine. The misdemeanors each carry a maximum penalty of five years imprisonment and/or $10,000 fine.
The defendant, who was recommitted to jail in lieu of $100,000 cash bail, has been incarcerated since being arrested by Butler Township police Aug. 21 on two counts each of indecent assault, indecent exposure and corruption of minors relating to incidents at a Gordon home between Jan. 1 and July 2. Police said the victims were 12 and 8 years of age at the time. The 8-year-old victim is the same girl Turofski is accused of indecently assaulting in Ralpho Township last year.
