God's Chuck Wagon has bus ready to roll
God's Chuck Wagon, the mobile soup kitchen that serves Mount Carmel and Shamokin, is set to begin using a bus after several years of operating out of personal vehicles.
Starting with its visits to Mount Carmel on Monday and Shamokin on Tuesday, the bus will be in use rather than volunteers setting up on the sidewalk, said Pastor James Bowers.
At Mount Carmel, the chuck wagon will be at the intersection of Fourth and Oak streets from 4 to 6 p.m. Mondays as it was before.
In Shamokin on Tuesdays, use of the bus requires that the service move from Independence Street near the WIC office to the parking lot along Water Street, behind the Rite Aid in the area of the tattoo parlor. Hours there are also 4 to 6.
The bus is for transport of food and supplies, and only volunteers are allowed on-board, Bowers said.
A dedication service for the bus is being planned, he said.
