SHAMOKIN - A seven- year-old girl was bitten by a dog Sunday afternoon.

According to her mother, Zoey Seidel, of Shamokin, was walking down Rock Street to a friend's house when a dog ran out and bit her right hand.

Shamokin police and local firefighters corralled the dog, which chased after several bystanders and an officer, until the dog's owner, Hilcias Lantigua, of 17 S. Rock St., arrived home.

The owner did not have an up-to-date license for the dog.

Patrolman Nathan Rhodes said the dog warden would be notified and Lantigua would be cited for the issue, with charges pending.

Seidel was taken via Area Services, Inc., to a local medical facility to be treated for her wound.
