The concrete foundation for the Anthracite Outdoor Adventure Area (AOAA) welcome center has been poured. The center will include an administrative building with an office, conference room and three maintenance garages.

The AOAA authority recently approved a payment of $262,327.50 to the general contractor, Paul Risk Associates Inc., Quarryville. Shannon A. Smith Inc., Myerstown, was awarded the contract for electrical work, with a bid of $96,953. Plumbing work and drilling of a well began in August.

Meanwhile, grading of the main entrance road off Route 125, south of Burnside, and additional site preparations, including drainage and final grading, continued Tuesday.

State grant funding will cover the construction at the AOAA, with the total exceeding $1.6 million.
