Football contest winners announced

SHAMOKIN - Carol Ebright, of 38 N. Vine St., Mount Carmel, captured first place in the 11th and final week of The News-Item Football Contest by correctly making 11 out of 12 possible selections.

Ebright and Andy Kriesher, of 176 Chestnut Lane, Mount Carmel, were the only two entrants who chose 11 of 12 winners correctly, but Ebright was spot-on in her pick of 46 points as the most points scored by one team, giving her first place and a $50 gift certificate, redeemable at any participating business. Line Mountain scored 46 points in their win over Montgomery Friday night.

For finishing second, Kriesher will receive a $25 gift certificate.

Eighteen individuals correctly picked 10 out of 12 correct games and two, Rick Greco, of 38 Tall Oaks Drive, Pottsville, and Warren Gunderman, of 219 W. Second St., Mount Carmel, picked 46 points as the top score for the week. A random drawing was held and Greco won third place, receiving a $15 gift certificate.

All three winners, Gunderman, and all those who correctly picked 10 out of 12 winners will be entered into a drawing for the $200 grand prize to be awarded at the end of the season. Those who qualified this week are: Mary Ann Wojcik, of 1255 Chestnut St., Kulpmont; Lottie Leschinsky, of 318 W. Saylor St., Atlas; Debbie Laureti, of 335 Arizona Ave., Shenandoah Heights; Lori Sabotchick of 309 Penn Ave., Elysburg; Joey Laureti, of 335 Arizona Ave., Shenandoah Heights; Vince Mirack, of 920 W. State St., Coal Township; Lou Ferrari, of 1344 W. Pine St., Coal Township; Lisa Jeremiah, of 140 Murray Ave., Bloomsburg; George Jeremiah, of 177 Circle Drive, Coal Township; Carlene Taylor, of 223 W. Sunbury St., Shamokin; Joseph Ebright, of 335 W. Fourth St., Mount Carmel; Rachel Puza, of 16 N. Eighth Street, Kulpmont; Mike Rovito, of 347 N. Oak St., Mount Carmel; Dottie Jeremiah, of 177 Circle Drive, Coal Township; Jackson Ebright, of 335 W. Fourth St., Mount Carmel; Mearl Spotts, of 507 Overlook Blvd., Shamokin, and Tim Kerstetter Sr. of 270 Mountain Road, Shamokin.

No date has been selected for the grand-prize drawing. The News-Item will announce the grand-prize winner in the coming weeks.
