SHAMOKIN - The first of many fundraising events to benefit Shamokin's 150th Anniversary Celebration in 2014 will be held Saturday night.
All Coors Light bottles and drafts as well as Captain and Coke mixed drinks sold between 9 p.m. and 1 a.m. at Independence Fire Co., Market and Arch streets, will be donated to the anniversary committee.
Katz Meow Sounds will DJ the event. Cover charge is $5, all of which will also benefit anniversary events in 2014.
The committee is planning more social events at local clubs and fire companies, along with a chicken barbecue and 5K race this coming June 22.
The 150th Anniversary Celebration in 2014 is being planned as a five-day event during the week of the Fourth of July to include a featured parade, vesper service, community breakfast, toy and pet parade, fireman's night and Shamokin queen contest.
A three-night block party event will coincide with the celebration.
Committee members will meet at 7 p.m. March 21 at Independence Fire Co. Additional help and more ideas are welcome, and anyone with an interest in the City of Shamokin is invited to participate.
