SHAMOKIN - The following hearings took place Tuesday before Magisterial District Judge John Gembic III. Defendants ordered to appear for plea court April 28 at Northumberland County Courthouse, Sunbury, can plead guilty or no contest, or seek a trial by pleading not guilty.
n Zachary R. Lahr, 27, of 828 Center St., Tharptown, waived to court charges of theft by unlawful taking, receiving stolen property and theft from a motor vehicle.
Lahr was charged by Coal Township Detective Jeff Brennan with stealing a tool box containing various tools and a CD player from a vehicle owned by James Conbeer Jr. on Aug. 14 in the 900 block of West Juniper Street.
n Nicole A. Seidel, 24, Shamokin, waived to court two counts of possession with intent to deliver Valium and one count of criminal use of a communication facility.
The charges filed by Shamokin Cpl. Bryan Primerano relate to a May 24 incident on Market Street.
n Brian Joel Wetzel, 24, of 1271 Hallowing Run Road, Sunbury, pleaded guilty to driving under suspension, speeding and disorderly conduct and was ordered to pay $551 in fines and $291.50 in costs. Charges of possession of a small amount of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia were withdrawn.
Wetzel was charged by Trooper Todd Leiby of state police at Stonington in connection with a Nov. 17 traffic stop on Route 225 near Hannah's Restaurant in Trevorton.
n Amber Kurtz, 24, of 829 W. Pine St., Coal Township, waived to court charges of theft and receiving stolen property involving a May 16 incident.
Kurtz was charged by Shamokin Patrolman Raymond Siko II with stealing a bottle containing 90 Alprazolam pills belonging to Mary Louise Garancheski, of 335 S. Rock St.
n Alan W. Swank Jr., 37, of 727 Bear Valley Ave., Shamokin, waived to court charges of simple assault and harassment relating to a March 6 disturbance at his home.
Swank was charged by Shamokin Patrolman Shane Mowery with assaulting his mother, Barbara Swank, causing injuries.
n Desiree A. Warner, 28, of 803 N. Washington St., Shamokin, was found guilty of a summary charge of harassment and ordered to pay a $300 fine plus costs and sentenced to 30 days in county prison. Gembic said the prison sentence will be suspended if Warner completes two months of anger management classes.
Two additional misdemeanor counts of simple assault were dismissed.
Warner was charged by Shamokin Patrolman Mark Costa with assaulting Stephanie Jeffery, causing her to undergo medical treatment for her injuries at Geisinger-Shamokin Area Community Hospital. Police said the assault occurred Feb. 16 at 406 E. Dewart St.
n Matthew D. Swinehart, 29, of 821 W. Shamokin St., Trevorton, and Timothy Kessler, 22, of 344 W. Shamokin St., Trevorton, were found guilty of a summary charge of harassment.
An additional misdemeanor charge of simple assault filed against Swinehart was dismissed.
Swinehart was charged by Trooper Barry Wooten of state police at Stonington with punching Kessler in the face, breaking his nose. Kessler was charged with harassment involving the fight that occurred Jan. 1 on West Market Street in Trevorton.
Swinehart was ordered by Gembic to pay a $300 fine plus costs, while Kessler was ordered to pay a $25 fine plus costs.
