SHAMOKIN - The following hearings took place Tuesday before Magisterial District Judge John Gembic III. Defendants ordered to appear for plea court Oct. 1 at Northumberland County Courthouse, Sunbury, can plead guilty or no contest, or seek a trial by pleading not guilty.
n Zachary Block, 19, of 318 N. Rock St., Shamokin, pleaded guilty to possession of drug paraphernalia and was ordered to pay a $300 fine plus costs and placed on supervised probation for six months. An additional charge of possession of a small amount of marijuana was withdrawn.
Block was charged by Coal Township Patrolman Terry Ketchem Jr. in connection with a June 18 incident in the parking lot at Punk's Gym on West Arch Street.
n Dylan Lee Davis, 23, of Wellsboro, waived to court a charge of possession of a firearm without a license filed by Shamokin Patrolman William Zalinski in connection with a May 25 incident in the first block of South Market Street.
n Jose A. Caban, 29, of 1207 Chemung St., Coal Township, waived to court charges of simple assault and harassment.
He was charged by Coal Township Patrolman Terry Ketchem Jr. with throwing a cordless telephone at his girlfriend, Michelle Banegas, that struck her in the head, causing it to bleed. Police said the incident occurred Aug. 5 at 1207 Chemung St.
n Kenneth Elliot Jr., 22, of 1222 W. Willow St., Coal Township, waived to court charges of unlawful restraint, terroristic threats, simple assault, disorderly conduct and two counts of kidnapping.
The charges were filed by Coal Township Detective Jeff Brennan in connection with incidents that occurred July 10 in the west end of the township.
Elliot, who remains in Northumberland County Prison in Sunbury, and Samuel Leider, 22, of Millville, N.J., were charged with kidnapping Steve Chamberlain, 20, of Overlook, and holding him captive for about an hour for allegedly not paying a $500 drug debt. Chamberlain suffered a minor injury during the ordeal.
Leider waived his case to the Court of Common Pleas in Sunbury on July 17.
n Gavin D. Heim, 18, of 329 Park Road, Valley View, waived to court charges of fleeing or attempting to elude police, accidents involving death or personal injury, resisting arrest, accidents involving death or personal injury while not properly licensed, accidents involving damage to attended property, failure to provide information and render aid, driving under suspension, reckless driving, driving at an unsafe speed, a red light violation and stop sign violation.
The charges filed by Shamokin Patrolman William Zalinski relate to a July 27 accident at Shamokin and Independence streets.
n Criminal complaints filed by Patrolman William Miner against Larry Rose, 39, of 819 A. Mahanoy St., Trevorton, and Christina K. Lebo, 26, of 69 Raspberry Hill, Shamokin, were withdrawn after both defendants agreed to plead guilty to summary offenses.
Rose, who was charged with criminal conspiracy and criminal trespass, pleaded guilty to trespass and was ordered to pay a $200 fine plus costs.
Lebo, who was charged with criminal conspiracy, pleaded guilty to harassment and was ordered to pay a $200 fine plus costs.
Rose and Lebo were charged in connection with an Aug. 23 incident at the Raspberry Hill Housing Complex Office.
n Michael A. Pastuszek, 28, of 109 School House Road, Bloomsburg, waived to court two counts of driving under the influence of alcohol, failure to drive in a single lane, driving at an unsafe speed, careless driving and failure to wear a seat belt.
The charges filed by Trooper Barry Wooten of state police at Stonington relate to July 8 incident along Route 4005 in Snydertown.
