District Court (Jones): Saturday, Sept. 28, 2013
MOUNT CARMEL - The following hearings took place Wednesday before Magisterial District Judge Hugh Jones. Defendants ordered to appear for plea court Oct. 28 in Northumberland County Court, Sunbury, can plead guilty or no contest, or seek a trial by pleading not guilty.
n Dawn M. McCann, 36, and her brother, Kenneth D. Baylis, 46, both of 228 W. Walnut St., Shamokin, each waived charges of endangering the welfare of children and public drunkenness. Baylis also waived a child safety seat violation. Their bail was reduced from $20,000 cash to unsecured and they were released.
Charges were filed by Ralpho Township Patrolman Christopher Grow. McCann and Baylis were allegedly involved in a fight about 3:40 a.m. Sept. 20 in the Sheetz parking lot on Route 487.
n Jeffrey Dale Cole, 53, of 88 Pottsville St., Cressona, waived three counts of driving under the influence along with endangering the welfare of a child and a lane violation. Charges were filed by Mount Carmel Township Patrolman Daniel Politza.
Cole's blood alcohol level was 0.23 percent, above the 0.08 percent legal limit, following a traffic stop about 3:30 p.m. May 31 along Route 54 near Strong, police said. A 13-year-old male was with Cole at the time of his arrest.
n Keifer Michael Zsido, 22, of 149 W. Sixth St., Mount Carmel, pleaded guilty to one count of public drunkenness. He was sentenced to pay a $455.50 fine plus court costs. Charges of loitering and prowling at night, theft from motor vehicle and conspiracy to commit theft were withdrawn. Mount Carmel Township Patrolman Matthew Filarski filed the charges.
Zsido was accused of taking personal items from a vehicle his family once owned that was parked at Joe's Auto Body, 179 Colonial Ave., Natalie, at 1:30 a.m. Sept. 1.
n Ronald Raymond Dimm, 28, of 22 S. Fifth St., Shamokin, waived two counts of driving under the influence, careless driving and a speeding violation. Charges were filed by Mount Carmel Township Patrolman Matthew Filarski.
Dimm was arrested following a traffic stop at Main Street and Route 901 about 9:37 p.m. May 16. Police say he was driving 80 mph in a 45-mph zone, and that he was under the influence of prescription medication.
n A charge of theft filed against Anthony M. Zamboni, 26, of 622 Scott St., Apt. D, Kulpmont, was dismissed after the alleged victim refused to testify. Trooper James Yankovich of state police at Stonington filed the charge.
Zamboni was accused of stealing three Masonic rings valued at $900 from Peter Zabawsky on April 26 and having them pawned.
n Jarred S. Derck, 29, of 26 Main St., Ashland, pleaded guilty to possession of drug paraphernalia and was ordered to pay a $500 fine plus court costs. Charges of criminal mischief and possession of a controlled substance were withdrawn. Ralpho Township Patrolman Christopher Grow filed the charges.
Derck allegedly possessed six small packets of heroin following a disturbance about 8:05 p.m. March 29 at Miller's Gas and Oil, Route 61.
n David Matthew Brown, 29, of 236 S. Vine St., Mount Carmel, had felony counts of theft and receiving stolen property bound to court. Mount Carmel Patrolman Jason Drumheller filed the charges.
He is accused of failing to return a Mossberg 12-gauge shotgun to its owner, Raymond Kornacki, his father-in-law, that he allegedly took between June and August from a home at 29 N. Chestnut St.
Brown also waived possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia. Those charges were filed by Mount Carmel Township Patrolman Daniel Politza following an incident about 7:22 p.m. Sept. 6 outside the Silver Bowl stadium where he was allegedly found in possession of several packets of heroin, a hypodermic needle and a metal spoon.
n Foster Unger Renn, 23, of 1305 W. Montgomery St., Coal Township, waived two felony counts of possession of a controlled substance, felony criminal use of a communication facility and misdemeanors of possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia. Charges were filed by Ralpho Township Patrolman Christopher Grow.
Renn is accused of selling 0.12 grams of heroin to a confidential informant on Dec. 28, 2012.
n Vincent Thomas Crosby, 29, of 702 Spruce St., Kulpmont, waived aggravated assault, simple assault, two counts of disorderly conduct, resisting arrest and harassment. Charges were filed by Kulpmont Patrolman Patrick McAndrew.
Crosby was arrested during a domestic disturbance about 10:30 p.m. Sept. 19. A charge of disorderly conduct is pending against his wife, Helena.
n Daniel J. Shields, 19, of 123 S. Vine St., Mount Carmel, waived three counts of drug possession, two of which are felonies, and eight misdemeanor counts of possession of drug paraphernalia. Charges were filed by Mount Carmel Chief of Police Todd Owens and Patrolman William Adamski.
Police were called to Shields' home during a visit by probation officers on Sept. 17 where they allegedly found in his bedroom 12 packets of heroin, 99 oxycodone pills and 1.1 grams of marijuana along with a metal grinder, two glass smoking pipes and a glass "bong," and clear plastic zip bags.
