MOUNT CARMEL - The following hearings took place Wednesday before Magisterial District Judge Hugh Jones. Defendants ordered to appear for plea court July 29 in Northumberland County Court, Sunbury, can plead guilty or no contest, or seek a trial by pleading not guilty.

n Matthew Duceman, 36, of 126 Vermont Drive, Kulpmont, pleaded guilty to harassment and was ordered to pay a fine and costs totaling $455.50. Additional charges of terroristic threats and simple assault were withdrawn.

Duceman was charged by Mount Carmel Township Patrolman David Stamets with assaulting Elizabeth Leach on Sunday morning at 126 Vermont Drive.

n Mark Melnick, 25, of 45 S. Chestnut St., Mount Carmel, waived to court charges of making false reports to police, tampering with or fabricating evidence, driving under the influence of alcohol and a controlled substance, driving under the influence of a controlled substance, driving under suspension, failure to drive in a single lane and careless driving.

The charges filed by Mount Carmel Township Patrolman David Stamets relate to a March 2 traffic stop on Route 61 near Cole's Hardware.

n Hope E. Lowry, 27, and Jason Starkoski, 30, both of 327 W. Fig St., Mount Carmel, waived to court multiple charges in connection with a Feb. 7 hit-and-run accident in the 200 block of East Saylor Street in Atlas.

Lowry waived charges of driving under the influence of a drug or combination of drugs, possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, hit and run and careless driving.

Starkoski waived charges of allowing a person to drive his vehicle under the influence of a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and resisting arrest.

The charges were filed by Mount Carmel Township Patrolman David Stamets.

n Michael R. Wisnoskie, 20, of 76 Church St., Locust Gap, waived to court charges of driving under the influence of a drug or combination of drugs, driving under the influence of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of a small amount of marijuana and a lighting violation.

The charges filed by Mount Carmel Township Patrolman Matthew Filarski relate to a March 16 vehicle stop on Route 901 near the former Boylan's Service Station.

n Donald J. Ponatoski, 27, of 1128 W. Gowen St., Coal Township, and Sean P. Keegan, 27, of 9 N. Sixth St., Shamokin, waived to court charges of possession of heroin and possession of drug paraphernalia relating to a March 7 traffic stop on Route 487 in Elysburg.

Ralpho Township Patrolman Chris Grow filed the charges.

n Jennifer Yost, 30, of 217 S. Walnut St., Mount Carmel, waived to court charges of driving under the influence of alcohol, unsworn falsification to authorities, false reports, hit and run and reckless driving involving an April 8 accident at Sixth and Chestnut streets in Mount Carmel.

The charges were filed by Mount Carmel Patrolman Matthew Dillman.

n Six defendants were held for court on various charges after they failed to appear for preliminary hearings.

They include Christine L. Jeffery, 26, of 554 Chestnut St., Apt. 1, Kulpmont; Larissa J. Voeckler, 26, of 127 N. Chestnut St., Mount Carmel; David A. Rand, 32, of 1118 Scott St., Kulpmont; Travis J. Scherer, 24, of 441 Happy Valley Road, Elysburg; James E. Colahan, 38, of 105 Gordon St., Gordon, and Barry Anoia, 27, of 1118 W. Walnut St., Coal Township.

Jeffery was charged by Kulpmont Patrolman Michael Pitcavage with simple assault, harassment and disorderly conduct for allegedly assaulting her live-in boyfriend, Michael J. McGinley, on April 26 at their apartment.

Voeckler was charged by Mount Carmel Cpl. David Donkochik with possession of drug paraphernalia involving an April 22 incident.

Rand was charged by Ralpho Township Cpl. Bryon Chowka with providing false identification to police, driving without a license and driving without proper inspection relating to an April 10 traffic stop in Elysburg.

Scherer was charged by Mount Carmel Township Patrolman David Stamets with possession of a small amount of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, driving under the influence of a drug or combination of drugs, driving under the influence of a controlled substance and other charges in connection with a March 31 traffic stop near the Viaduct.

Colahan was charged by Mount Carmel Township Patrolman Matthew Filarski with two counts of driving under the influence of alcohol, driving under suspension and driving without proper inspection involving an April 28 traffic stop on Route 901 at the Locust Summit intersection.

Anoia was charged by Ralpho Township Patrolman Chris Grow with possession of heroin, possession of drug paraphernalia and providing false identification to police in connection with a March 7 traffic stop in Elysburg.
