Death of SCI-Coal Township inmate probed
COAL TOWNSHIP - The death of an inmate at State Correctional Institution-Coal Township early Saturday is under investigation.
Northumberland County Coroner James F. Kelley said the unidentified inmate is a 33-year-old black male. He was pronounced dead at 3:29 a.m. Saturday by Chief Deputy Coroner James R. Gotlob.
The inmate's identity is being withheld pending notification of family, he said.
Kelley and Gotlob are investigating the death with Trooper Kevin Kearney of state police at Stonington.
District Attorney Tony Rosini was notified, Kelley said, adding that "no further information will be released at this time."
Kearney was unavailable for comment.
It's the second death investigation for Kelley at the state facility in the last eight days. Robert Sedlock, 72, of Yeadon, Delaware County, died early Aug. 16 of natural causes in the prison infirmary.
