Motorcycle crash

EAST CAMERON TOWNSHIP - One injury was reported in a motorcycle accident Sunday afternoon along Route 125 in this Northumberland County township.

State police at Stonington reported Linda L. Bowman, 60, of Bath, who was a passenger on a 2006 Harley-Davidson Electro Glide Classic operated by Gilbert S. Smith Jr., 69, of Northampton, suffered moderate injuries in the 2:10 p.m. crash, approximately 445 feet east of Creek Road.

Bowman was transported by Trevorton Ambulance to Shamokin Area Community Hospital, where she underwent emergency room treatment before being released. Smith escaped injury.

Both Bowman and Smith were wearing helmets, police said.

Police said Smith was driving the motorcycle close to the edge of the highway when it slid on leaves that were covering mud and rocks caused by recent heavy rains. The motorcycle then slid onto its left side and continued to slide south on the edge of the road for approximately 20 feet before coming to rest.

Assisting at the scene were firefighters from East Cameron Township and Shamokin.

Theft charges

SHAMOKIN - Jason K. Mirack, 34, of 1234 W. Arch St., Coal Township, has been charged by city and Coal Township police with theft offenses.

Mirack is charged by Shamokin Patrolman Mark Costa with theft by unlawful taking and theft by deception relating to incidents that occurred between August and October in the city. Police reported Mirack, who was employed at the time by R.A. Jones and Sons Hauling, is accused of stealing $551 from 23 properties on a trash collection route in the city.

He also is charged by Coal Township Patrolman Matthew Hashuga with theft by unlawful taking and receiving stolen property involving incidents that occurred between August and Oct. 21 in the township. Police reported Mirack allegedly stole $437 from 16 properties on a trash collection route.

Robbery

COAL TOWNSHIP - Charges of robbery and theft by unlawful taking have been filed by Patrolman Terry Ketchem against Lewis Hine, 29, of 1023 W. Montgomery St., Coal Township, in connection with a Sept. 27 robbery at Hunter and Race streets.

According to a criminal complaint filed at the office of Magisterial District Judge John Gembic III, Hine allegedly confronted Adam White and placed a concealed object to White's head while demanding him give him everything he had on his possession. Police said White gave Hine a cell phone and DVD movie. White told police he believed the concealed object held to his head was a firearm.

Hine was arraigned at 11 a.m. Tuesday by Gembic and committed to Northumberland County Prison in Sunbury in lieu of $5,000 cash bail.

Router, table stolen

COAL TOWNSHIP - Police here reported someone stole a Craftsman router and table from a garage on Short Street in Ranshaw between 10:30 a.m. Monday and 10 a.m. Tuesday.
