Criminal mischief
EAST CAMERON TOWNSHIP - Julian M. Ross, 23, of Mount Carmel, and Casey A. Ross, 22, of Northumberland, have been charged by state police at Stonington with criminal mischief for allegedly damaging surveillance cameras on a radio tower owned by Northumberland County Emergency Services located on Boyer's Knob, adjacent to Route 125.
The vandalism, which occurred Aug. 2, caused approximately $2,100 damage.
Six escape injury
UPPER AUGUSTA TOWNSHIP - Six people escaped injury in a minor two-vehicle accident Wednesday night along Route 4004 in this Northumberland County township.
State police at Stonington reported Kyle W. Gerber, 21, of Sunbury, was driving a 2001 Oldsmobile Alero behind a 1999 Ford F-150 truck operated by Matthew R. Billman, 22, of Sunbury, at 7:20 p.m. when Billman stopped in the travel lane to allow a vehicle to turn left into a business. Police said Gerber, who was talking to a passenger, failed to see Billman stop his truck and applied his brakes to avoid an accident, but couldn't do so in time.
Police said Gerber was cited for driving a vehicle at an unsafe speed.
Gerber and his three male juvenile passengers, who were not identified by police, escaped injury, as did Billman and his male juvenile passenger.
DUI
COAL TOWNSHIP - Thomas G. Urbanowicz Jr., 28, of 614 N. Franklin St., Shamokin, has been charged by Trooper Mark Adams of state police at Stonington with driving under the influence of alcohol relating to a traffic stop at 2:11 a.m. Oct. 11 on Route 61 in Coal Township.
Underage drinking
COAL TOWNSHIP - Jimmie Driggers, 20, of 1118-A Chemung St., Coal Township, and Jordan Myers, 19, of 821 E. Cameron St., Shamokin, will be cited by Coal Township police for underage drinking relating to an incident that occurred at 1:30 a.m. Thursday at Chemung and Hancock streets.
Aiding truancy
SHAMOKIN - Wendy Hengst, 42, of 44 S. Rock St., Shamokin, and Jonathan Lake, 20, of Shamokin, were cited by Patrolman Raymond Siko II for aiding a 17-year-old female to commit truancy Thursday.
Police said the juvenile was found inside Hengst's residence at 1:50 p.m. in the company of Hengst and Lake when she should have been attending school.
Aggravated assault
COAL TOWNSHIP - Michael Baxter, 30, an inmate at the State Correctional Institution at Coal Township, has been charged by Trooper Ronald Zanella of state police at Stonington with aggravated assault and simple assault relating to an Oct. 15 disturbance at the state prison.
According to a criminal complaint filed at the office of Magisterial District Judge John Gembic III, Baxter punched Correctional Officer David Warman and Sgt. James Croft.
Forgery
SHAMOKIN - Charges of forgery, theft by deception, acquiring a controlled substance by fraud and receiving stolen property were filed by Patrolman William Miner against Robert E. Reichwein, 25, of 239 W. Willow St., Shamokin.
Police reported Reichwein is accused of obtaining Kadian by lying to a pharmacist at CVS Pharmacy in downtown Shamokin on Nov. 3, 2008, by claiming he was picking up the drug for Lynn Sessions.
Furnishes alcohol
SHAMOKIN - Patrolman Darwin Tobias III has charged Jeremy J. Smith, 21, of 653 Bear Valley Ave., Shamokin, with selling or furnishing alcohol to minors during the late evening hours of Oct. 16 at his residence.
Police said Smith furnished alcohol to a 19-year-old female and a 19-year-old male.
Simple assault
COAL TOWNSHIP - Charges of simple assault and harassment have been filed by Deputy Chief Henry Schrader against Joseph Miscavage, 37, of 1223 W. Mulberry St., Coal Township.
Police reported Miscavage is accused of punching and kicking Shawn Feese several times in the face and other parts of his body, causing injuries to his ribs, head, face, legs and arms that required medical treatment at Shamokin Area Community Hospital.
Police said the assault occurred Aug. 30 on Big Mountain Road.
Rape charges
SUNBURY - David Smith, 39, a resident of Room 433 at the Hotel Edison, has been charged by city police with felony counts of involuntary deviate sexual intercourse, rape, aggravated indecent assault and sexual assault in connection with an incident Thursday night involving a 41-year-old man from Northumberland.
The charges were filed by Cpl. Christopher Blase.
Police were called to the emergency room department at Sunbury Community Hospital for a report of a sexual assault. Police were met by the victim, who reported that he was sexually assaulted by Smith in his hotel room. The victim, who was not identified by police, said Smith gave him a prescription medication until he passed out. When he awoke, the victim said Smith was having sexual intercourse with him.
The victim told police he was eventually able to flee to another room in the hotel, where he called 911.
Police served a search warrant on Smith's room and seized five types of medication and other physical evidence.
Smith was arraigned by Magisterial District Judge Carl Rice and committed to Northumberland County Prison in Sunbury in lieu of $75,000 cash bail.
Smith could face up to 60 years in prison if convicted of all charges.
