COAL TOWNSHIP - A 17-year-old Shamokin boy was charged by Coal Township Police with the rape of a child, involuntary deviate sexual intercourse with a child, aggravated indecent assault of a child and statutory sexual assault.
Patrolman Jeffrey J. Brennan said the teen allegedly sexually assaulted a 12-year-old Coal Township girl in a wooded area on the western portion of the township during the afternoon of Aug. 25.
The charges were filed through the Northumberland County Juvenile Court.
LOWER AUGUSTA TOWNSHIP - State police at Stonington reported someone broke into Mountain Presbyterian Church at 2478 Boyles Run Road Sunday or Monday and removed various items before fleeing in an unknown direction.
KULPMONT - Stanley Bednarchik, 90, of Kulpmont, suffered a minor wrist injury Monday morning when his 1997 Mazda 626 struck a parked and unoccupied 2012 Chevrolet Colorado near 1240 Chestnut St.
State police at Stonington reported Bednarchik was traveling south when he lost control of his vehicle and hit the parked vehicle at 9:11 a.m.
Bednarchik was wearing a seat belt, police said.
Doctor's vehicle burned
MOUNT CARMEL TOWNSHIP - Police here are investigating the theft of a blue 1996 Suburban owned by Dr. Raymond Kraynak of Mount Carmel that was found burned in a wooded area in Shady Acres.
Mount Carmel Township Police Chief Brian Hollenbush said Kraynak's vehicle was reported stolen from his picnic/banquet facility in Atlas at 5:50 a.m. Monday. The Suburban, which was destroyed by fire, was discovered by a Shady Acres resident at 2:19 p.m. Monday at the end of Beech Drive.
Hollenbush urged anyone with information about the theft or arson to call police at 570-339-1653.
Hit and Run
COAL TOWNSHIP - Faith Smink, 62, of 1564 Pulaski Ave., reported that someone struck and caused damage to her blue 2007 Chevrolet vehicle between Sunday and Tuesday morning while it was parked across the street in front of her house, according to Coal Township Police Department.
