State police at Stonington report a 1998 Buick Century, driven by Shaun M. Ryan, 31, of Mount Carmel, was traveling west on Snydertown Road when he lost control of his vehicle due to snow and ice.
The Century spun around, exited the road off the north berm and then struck a dirt embankment. Ryan was not injured in the crash.
MOUNT CARMEL - David M. Brown, 29, of 29 N. Chestnut St., was charged by borough police with driving under the influence and careless driving following an incident at Center and Market streets at 3:40 a.m. Jan. 3.
According to court documents, police responded to a call of a suspicious vehicle outside a business when they observed Brown driving away from the scene. Police followed and Brown led them on a chase at high rates of speed, police said. Brown was eventually stopped near Mount Carmel Estates, police said. A preliminary breath test showed an alcohol level of .16 percent at the time and Brown allegedly refused the chemical blood test.
The charges were filed with Magisterial District Judge Hugh Jones, of Mount Carmel, with a preliminary hearing scheduled for Wednesday, Feb. 27.
