UPPER AUGUSTA TOWNSHIP - A Watsontown man faces drug charges after a traffic stop Feb. 8.
State police at Stonington said Walter Burger Jr., 58, of Watsontown, was stopped for running a red light at the intersection of Front Street and Shikellamy Avenue at 12:21 a.m. Police said Berger was under the influence of marijuana and in possession of the drug and drug paraphernalia. He was taken to Sunbury Hospital for a blood test, which verified the presence of marijuana in Berger's system.
Police charged him with possession of a small amount of marijuana, driving under the influence of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and three traffic violations. The charges were filed with Magisterial District Judge Benjamin Apfelbaum, of Sunbury, with a preliminary hearing scheduled for April 1.
SHAMOKIN - David Payne, 24, of 33 N. Seventh St., Apt. 3, Shamokin, was arraigned Thursday morning on charges of simple assault and harassment involving a domestic disturbance.
According to a criminal complaint filed by Patrolman William Zalinski, Payne is accused of punching his live-in girlfriend, Shaniqua Stoute, in the face, causing her nose to swell and bleed. Police said the assault occurred at about 6 a.m. at their apartment.
Payne was committed to Northumberland County Prison in Sunbury after failing to post $2,500 bail set by Magisterial District Judge John Gembic III.
RALPHO TOWNSHIP - Samantha Marie Kelley, 26, of 1297 Market St., Sunbury, has been charged by Patrolman Chris Dailey with two counts of driving under the influence of alcohol involving an Aug. 28 incident in the parking lot at Turkey Hill Minit Market at the intersection of Routes 54 and 487.
Police said Kelley, who had a blood-alcohol content of .143 percent, was found unresponsive and nearly fell out of her vehicle after several attempts to wake her.
MOUNT CARMEL TOWNSHIP - Patrolman Kelly Campbell charged John M. Gasperetti, 51, of 122 Railroad St., Locust Gap, with two counts of driving under the influence of alcohol and driving at an unsafe speed in connection with a Feb. 3 rollover accident on Route 2038 near Beaverdale.

SNYDERTOWN - A Sunbury driver escaped injuries Wednesday after losing control of the vehicle she was driving and stopping in a field along Snydertown Road, according to state police at Stonington.
Trooper David Townsend reported Alicia L. Eisenhauer, 30, was driving west on Route 4012 at 7 a.m. in a 2002 Chevrolet Impala when she lost control.
She was not charged, police said.
LOWER AUGUSTA TOWNSHIP - A Herndon driver, who was injured in a two-vehicle accident, was cited for a traffic violation following the incident on Route 147, just south of Riland Road, according to state police at Stonington.
Trooper James McCormick reported Kyle J. Stevens, 33, was traveling north at 5:17 a.m. in a 2007 Dodge Caliber while Dale E. Wolf, 39, of Paxinos, was traveling south in a 2004 Mack Conventional.
Stevens allegedly fell asleep at the wheel, crossed the center line into the path of Wolf and struck a plow on the front of the truck, police said.
Both vehicles came to rest at the point of impact, police said.
Both men were wearing their seatbelts, and Americus Ambulance responded to the scene, police said.
The extent of Stevens' injuries was not reported, police said.
MAYBERRY TOWNSHIP - An Elysburg driver was cited with careless driving after he allegedly damaged the side of another vehicle while plowing on Sharp Ridge Road Wednesday, according to state police at Stonington.
Trooper David Townsend reported that Kyle R. Chaudy, 48, was backing up a 2007 Mack Conventional at 8:45 a.m. in the northbound lane of Route 2111 when he struck the driver's side of a 2004 Chevrolet Colorado being driven by Dean R. Woodruff, 44, of Danville.
Woodruff was stopped in the northbound lane, police said.
Both men were wearing their seatbelts, and no one was injured, police said.
