Minor injury

MONROE TOWNSHIP - Marielisa Alvarez, 30, of Kulpmont, suffered minor injuries Sunday afternoon when her car was rear-ended by another vehicle at the intersection of Routes 11-15 (Susquehanna Trail) and Brown Street in this Snyder County township.

State police at Selinsgrove reported Alvarez was traveling north in the right lane of Routes 11-15 when she slowed down to turn right onto Brown Street. Alvarez's 1997 Honda Accord was then struck in the rear by a 2001 Pontiac Sunfire driven north by Rebecca A. Beitz, 19, of Danville.

Beitz and her 15-year-old male passenger from Danville escaped injury.

Beitz was cited for driving at an unsafe speed.

Scattering rubbish

COAL TOWNSHIP - Michael Deitz Jr., of Shamokin, was charged by Coal Township police with scattering rubbish after he allegedly took a load of rubbish to a wooded area behind Coal Run and dumped it at approximately 6 p.m. Saturday. The citation was filed with Magisterial District Judge John Gembic.

DUI offenses

COAL TOWNSHIP - Patrolman Matthew Hashuga has charged Brian L. Jeremiah, 25, of 1101 W. State St., Coal Township, with two counts of driving under the influence of alcohol and one count of driving under suspension relating to a March 12 incident.

Police reported Jeremiah, who had a blood-alcohol content of .238 percent, was found passed out inside a truck that crashed into an embankment on Sterling Street between Jackson Street and Venn Access Road shortly before 4 a.m.

Retail theft

COAL TOWNSHIP - Kenneth A. Latshaw, 38, of 804 W. Fifth St., Mount Carmel, was charged by Patrolman Matthew Hashuga with retail theft.

According to a criminal complaint, Latshaw is accused of stealing $350.45 in merchandise from Wal-Mart Supercenter along Route 61 on April 4. Police said Latshaw has two prior convictions for retail theft, which makes this offense a felony.

COAL TOWNSHIP - Patrolman Matthew Hashuga has charged Sara L. Strohecker, 28, of 1150 Ridge Road, Klingerstown, with retail theft involving a March 27 incident at Wal-Mart Supercenter.

Police said Strohecker allegedly stole $742.87 worth of merchandise from the store.

Theft charges

SHAMOKIN - Stephen M. Hornberger, 27, of Box 826, Paxinos RR 1, was charged by Patrolman Scott Weaver with theft and receiving stolen property.

Police said Hornberger allegedly stole a trailer belonging to Roger Shawda, of Shamokin, Jan. 7, then sold it to Jeff's Recycling.

Items taken from property

SHAMOKIN - Cpl. Jarrod Scandle has charged Scott Wilson, 40, of 121 E. Sunbury St., Shamokin, with theft relating to a Jan. 13 incident at a house he was renting from Curtis Mays.

Police reported Wilson removed a cherry hardwood floor, a refrigerator, an oil burner, plumbing, an electric water heater and 88 feet of high-quality cast iron baseboard heat and plumbing.

False identification

SHAMOKIN - Karen Koble, 51, of 915 W. Mulberry St., Coal Township, has been charged by Cpl. Jarrod Scandle with providing police with false identification April 4 when questioned about an investigation and her probation status.

Retail theft

COAL TOWNSHIP - A charge of retail theft has been filed by Patrolman Matthew Hashuga against Lynn M. Maurer, 45, of 543 Main St., Ranshaw, with retail theft for allegedly stealing $116.09 worth of merchandise from Wal-Mart Supercenter on March 18.
