Deer crash
ROCKEFFELER TOWNSHIP - No one was injured in a crash involving a deer on Plum Creek Road in Rockefeller Township at 9:45 p.m. Tuesday.
State police at Stonington report that a 1997 Chevrolet Cavalier, driven by Lindsay B. Johnson, 17, of Sunbury, was traveling east on Plum Creek Road when a deer ran from a field and was struck by the Cavalier. Johnson was not hurt, but her vehicle needed to be towed after it began to leak antifreeze.
DUI charges filed
MOUNT CARMEL TOWNSHIP - Daniel C. Carl, 20, of RR 3, Excelsior, was charged by Mount Carmel Township Police with driving under the influence and drug charges following a traffic stop on Route 901 at 3:02 a.m. on May 29.
Patrolman David J. Stamets Jr. of the Mount Carmel Township Police reported Carl was driving with a malfunctioning license plate light when stopped by police. The officer detected an odor of burnt marijuana inside the vehicle and Carl allegedly admitted to smoking the substance four hours earlier. He then failed field sobriety tests, and chemical testing showed marijuana was in his blood content.
Police also found a marijuana pipe in his pocket and approximately 3.8 grams of marijuana under a seat cover.
He was charged with driving under the influence, possession of a small amount of marijuana for personal use, possession of drug paraphernalia and underage drinking and cited for general lighting requirements on his vehicle. The charges were filed with Magisterial District Judge Hugh Jones of Mount Carmel. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Wednesday, Oct. 13.
Machine theft
LIMESTONE TOWNSHIP - Wanda Lee Wolfe, 61, of Danville, reported to state police at Milton that sometime between 8 a.m. June 20 and 4 p.m. June 23 someone entered her residence and removed a Cricut Expression machine and several die cut cartridges. Police say the investigation continues.
Resisting arrest
MOUNT CARMEL - Borough police charged Eric L. Leonowicz, 18, of 436 E. Melrose St., Marion Heights, with resisting arrest and cited him for underage drinking following an incident at a West Seventh Street home at 10:10 p.m. July 29.
Police were investigating a report of an underage drinking party when Leonowicz advanced toward police in a threatening manner. He was advised several times to get down on the ground before he was restrained by police and placed on the ground. He continued to try to get to his feet despite commands to stay on the ground.
The charges were filed with Magisterial District Judge Hugh Jones of Mount Carmel. A preliminary hearing on the matter is scheduled for Wednesday, Oct. 13.
Charges waived
MOUNT CARMEL - Michael Swatski, 40, of 326 N. Oak St., Mount Carmel, waived charges of possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance, criminal use of a communication facility, possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia during a preliminary hearing before Magisterial District Judge Hugh Jones of Mount Carmel Wednesday.
Swatski was charged by members of the Northumberland/Montour Drug Task Force after a confidential informant purchased heroin and marijuana from Swatski on June 14.
He was ordered to appear for court arraignment on Friday, Oct. 15, at the Northumberland County Courthouse, Sunbury, where he can plead guilty or no contest or seek a trial by pleading not guilty.
In a separate case, Swatski waived charges of forgery, theft by unlawful taking, receiving stolen property and bad checks. Those charges, filed by Mount Carmel Borough Police Patrolman Kevin Katch, were the result of a June 9 incident, when he allegedly stole a check from the MCA Sharks Swim Team to pay a garage bill.
Pleads guilty
MOUNT CARMEL - Michael W. Yost, 24, of 1772 W. Wood St. Coal Township, pled guilty to a charge of defiant trespass during a preliminary hearing before Magisterial District Judge Hugh Jones of Mount Carmel Wednesday.
The charges were filed by Mount Carmel Borough Police Patrolman Kevin Katch, following an incident at a Maple Street home on Aug. 23.
He was sentenced to one year probation and ordered to pay a $500 fine plus court costs. Charges of loitering and prowling at night and disorderly conduct were withdrawn in the case.
