Truck overturns

MONROE TOWNSHIP - Two lanes of traffic were blocked and one person was injured when a tractor trailer overturned on Route 11 Sunday morning, according to state police at Selinsgrove.

Trooper Michael Brubaker reported that Wilhelm Klassen, 24, of Ontario, Canada, was traveling south on Route 11, approximately 1/4 mile north of Tedd's Landing, in a 2004 Peterbilt Tractor Trailer at 3:29 a.m. Aug. 29, when he left the west side of the roadway.

After leaving the roadway, Klassen struck a rock embankment and continued south, striking the bank a second time and rolling over onto its driver's side with the tractor resting on the embankment. The trailing unit came to a rest facing southwest, blocking both lanes of travel.

Police said Klassen experienced a moderate injury and was taken to Geisinger Medical Center via ambulance. He was reportedly wearing his seatbelt.

Shortly after the rollover, Alexander Bush, 22, of Bartow, Fla., was traveling north in a 2007 Ford Focus and struck the trailing unit.

Bush was wearing a seatbelt and was not injured, said police.

State police were assisted at the scene by members of the Northumberland Police Department, Point Township Police Department, Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture, the Shamokin Dam Fire Department, Hummel's Wharf Fire Department, Americus Ambulance, PennDOT and Northridge Group Inc.

Two-car crash

UPPER AUGUSTA TOWNSHIP - No injuries were reported in a two-car accident Monday morning at the intersection of Fourth Street and Shikellamy Avenue.

State police at Stonington reported Cynthia M. Smith, 54, of Northumberland, was operating a 2001 Toyota Echo at 7:30 a.m. when she attempted to turn left onto Shikellamy Avenue from Fourth Street. Smith's car was then struck by a 2006 Chevrolet Cobalt driven on Shikellamy Avenue by Kristen N. Miller, 19, of Watsontown.
