Armed robbery

BERWICK - Police here are investigating an armed robbery at Dunkin' Donuts, 219 W. Front St., that occurred at about 3:30 a.m. Thursday.

According to Berwick Police Chief Francis H. Brennan II, a male wearing a black bandanna on his face and a dark shirt entered the business brandishing a black handgun. Police said the lone employee in the doughnut shop, who was not identified by police, heard the door chime and went to the counter, where he encountered the suspect, who pointed the handgun at the employee and demanded money.

The employee initially told the suspect that he was going to call police, but the suspect then jumped over the counter, grabbed the employee and pushed him to the register and demanded money. The employee then relinquished cash in mixed denominations totaling $400.

The suspect exited the building through the rear door and fled the scene.
