Brothers charged

BUTLER TOWNSHIP - Two Girardville brothers have been charged by state police at Frackville with multiple drug offenses relating to a traffic stop at 3:40 p.m. Wednesday on Route 61 in this Schuylkill County township.

Police reported Michael Angelo Cope, 31, and his 33-year-old brother, Dennis Scott Cope, were stopped for a traffic violation. During the stop, Dennis Cope, who was the passenger, provided false information to police regarding his identity. After confirming his identity, police discovered that he had an outstanding warrant for his arrest from Northampton County.

Michael Cope, the driver, was found in possession of marijuana, cocaine and a large amount of cash.

A search warrant was executed on the vehicle and a consequent search uncovered more marijuana, packaging supplies and a digital scale.

The Cope brothers were arraigned by Magisterial District Judge Carol Pankake and committed to Schuylkill County Prison in Pottsville on $35,000 cash bail each.

Assisting during the traffic stop were a Pennsylvania State Police K-9 unit and several troopers.

Disorderly conduct

COAL TOWNSHIP - A 16-year-old male from Shamokin and a 14-year-old Coal Township boy were charged by Patrolman Chris Lapotsky with disorderly conduct after being involved in a physical altercation Tuesday in the cafeteria at Shamokin Area Middle/Senior High School that resulted in minor injuries.

Drug charges

SHAMOKIN - Patrolman Bryan Primerano has charged a Shamokin man and a Mount Carmel woman with drug offenses relating to an incident that occurred at 2:15 p.m. Wednesday at 315 N. Shamokin St.

Kenneth Nahodil, 44, of 315 N. Shamokin St., is charged with two counts of delivery of heroin and one count of criminal use of a communication facility. He is accused of delivering three packets of heroin to a confidential informant for $60.

Nahodil was arraigned by on-call Magisterial District Judge Hugh Jones of Mount Carmel and committed to Northumberland County Prison in Sunbury in lieu of $100,000 cash bail.

Theresa Green, 52, of 407 N. Vine St., Mount Carmel, also was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of heroin relating to the same incident. She is accused of ingesting heroin with a syringe.
