Simple assault
ELYSBURG - An Elysburg couple were charged with simple assault following a domestic incident at their Hillside Avenue home at 4:58 p.m. Saturday.
Patrolman Christopher Grow of the Ralpho Township Police charged Kelly A. Wiest, 42, and Eric L. Wiest, 36, both of 151 Hillside Ave., with simple assault following the incident. According to court documents, both individuals caused injuries to each other following an argument at the home with the female suffering a cut lip and the male had bite marks on his left arm and hand.
Both were arraigned before Magisterial District Judge Hugh Jones of Mount Carmel and released on bail. The couple will have a preliminary hearing today.
DUI charges
ATLAS - Frederick T. Holmes Jr., 51, of 105 W. Girard St., Atlas, was charged with driving under the influence and driving with a suspended or revoked license, following a traffic stop on Route 61 at 3:43 a.m. Dec. 27.
Mount Carmel Township Police Chief Brian Hollenbush reported in court documents that Holmes was swerving back and forth in traffic before being stopped. A check of his driving record showed that he had a suspended license with eight prior convictions for driving with a suspended license.
According to blood-alcohol testing, alcohol and a number of controlled substances, including hydrocodone, oxycodone and marijuana, were found in his system.
The charges were filed with Magisterial District Judge Hugh Jones of Mount Carmel. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Wednesday, Feb. 24.
DUI enforcement
POTTSVILLE - The North Central Highway Safety Network's Regional DUI Enforcement Group and the Coal Township Police Department have announced roving patrols or sobriety checkpoints will be conducted from Feb. 8 to Feb. 16 on Routes 61, 225, 125, 54, 487 and 901 or other connecting roadways to municipalities. Travelers are reminded to report drunk drivers by dialing 911. To report underage drinking, call 1-888-under-21.
The roving patrols and checkpoints are funded through the Pensylvania Depatment of Transportation and the National Highway Safety Administration.
