2 charged in robbery
GIRARDVILLE - Two Ashland men have been charged by state police at Frackville in connection with a robbery Wednesday afternoon at the R&R Quick Mart on Second Street.
Christopher R. Hans, 24, and Joseph J. Brennan II, 24, are charged with robbery, conspiracy, aggravated assault, simple assault and related offenses. They were arraigned on the charges and committed to Schuylkill County Prison in Pottsville in lieu of $50,000 cash bail each.
Police reported Hans entered the convenience store at 12:20 p.m. and displayed a handgun at the store clerk, Theresa Smith, and demanded money. Smith then began to scream and ran to the back of the store to summon a manager. Hans exited the store and entered a vehicle operated by Brennan, police allege.
A bystander observed Hans exiting the store and obtained a registration plate and a description of the vehicle and the direction it fled the scene, according to police.
Police said the vehicle was seen by Butler Township and Ashland police traveling through Ashland, headed west on Route 54. A traffic stop was initiated by Butler Township and Ashland police, who took Hans and Brennan into custody without further incident.
Toilet paper lit
COAL TOWNSHIP - A pair of 12-year-old boys, one from Shamokin and the other from Coal Township, were charged by Patrolman Chris Lapotsky with disorderly conduct relating to an incident that occurred at 8 a.m. Monday, Dec. 14, inside the boys' bathroom at Shamokin Area Elementary School.
Police said both boys were lighting a pencil and toilet paper on fire with a cigarette lighter. Police said the males extinguished the items before leaving the bathroom.
School bus incident
COAL TOWNSHIP - An 11-year-old Coal Township boy was charged by Patrolman Christopher Lapotsky with disorderly conduct after he allegedly lit a pencil on fire and attempted to burn the back of a seat while riding inside a Shamokin Area School District bus at 3 p.m. Friday, Dec. 11.
Police said the pencil was extinguished by the youth and the bus seat wasn't damaged.
PFA violation
COAL TOWNSHIP - Christopher J. Hollenbach, 27, of 114 S. Poplar St., Mount Carmel, has been charged with violating a protection from abuse (PFA) order for allegedly sending a threatening text message on Saturday to Donna Hynes, 61, of 2012 State Route 61, Coal Township, who is the mother of Julia Hollenbach, 27, also of 2012 State Route 61, Coal Township, who is the plaintiff on the PFA order.
Hollenbach was arraigned on the charge by Magisterial District Judge Carl Rice of Sunbury and committed to Northumberland County Prison, Sunbury.
DUI charge
UPPER AUGUSTA TOWNSHIP - Darrell N. Badman, 53, of 210 Lenker Ave., Sunbury, has been charged by state police at Stonington with driving under the influence, driving under suspension, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia relating to a Nov. 22 incident along the Veteran's Bridge on Route 61.
