One-vehicle accident

LITTLE MAHANOY TOWNSHIP - No one was injured in a one-vehicle crash at 6:45 a.m. Saturday on State Highway 3004, near Route 225, in Little Mahanoy Township.

State police at Stonington reported a 2005 Ford Freestyle, driven by Casey P. Lenker, 28, of Shamokin, was traveling west on a snow-covered Route 3004 when the Freestyle lost traction with the roadway, then traveled off the roadway, down an embankment and struck a tree. The Freestyle came to rest on the embankment, facing south.

Lenker was not injured in the crash, but police say he will be cited for driving on roadways laned for traffic.

Pedestrian accident

COAL TOWNSHIP - A woman was transported for treatment following a pedestrian accident at the Plaza at Coal Township at 11:03 a.m. Saturday.

Coal Township Police reported that Eileen Flood, 56, of Weehawken, N.J., was walking to the Dollar Tree store in the plaza when she was struck by a 2008 plow truck, driven by John Hovenstine, 38, of Shamokin, which was plowing the parking lot. Flood was transported to Shamokin Area Community Hospital, where she was treated for her injuries and released.

One injured in crash

UPPER AUGUSTA TOWNSHIP - A Trevorton woman suffered moderate injures in a one-vehicle crash at 10 a.m. Dec. 13 on State Route 4018 near Shock Road in Upper Augusta Township.

State police at Stonington reported a 1997 Chevrolet Cavalier, driven by Katie E. Reader, 18, of Trevorton, was traveling west on State Route 4018 and was negotiating a right turn when she lost control of the vehicle on the ice-covered roadway. The Cavalier traveled off the right side of the road and struck a fence post. It then spun 180 degrees and struck a tree with its rear driver's side.

Reader suffered moderate injuries in the crash and was taken to a local hospital for treatment. Friendship Fire Company, of Sunbury, assisted police at the scene.

Deer accident

COAL TOWNSHIP - Coal Township Police patrolman Chad Yoder reported David Schatz Jr., 41, of Schuylkill Haven, was traveling along Route 54, near the Aqua Pennsylvania water company grounds, at 8:14 p.m. Friday, when a deer ran in front of his 2003 Chevrolet Suburban, causing his vehicle to strike it.

Schatz was uninjured in the crash, but the vehicle sustained heavy damage to the front bumper, hood and grill areas and had to be towed from the scene.

Teen cited for alcohol

SHAMOKIN - A 14-year-old Aristes female was cited by Patrolman Shane R, Mowery of the Shamokin Police Department for possessing and/or consuming alcoholic beverages in the area of Lombard and Clay streets at 11:55 p.m. Sunday.

Phone scam

COAL TOWNSHIP - Police wish to advise area residents in regard to a phone scam reported to the department.

Officers have received information from citizens who report that they have received calls from persons claiming they are representatives from insurance companies. The caller then attempts to convince the person to provide their personal information to them so that they can receive some type of financial rebate from the insurance company or on behalf of the state or federal government.

Police caution area residents about providing personal information over the phone.
