Public drunkenness
MOUNT CARMEL - Rodney H. Maxfield, 43, of North Maple Street, Mount Carmel, was cited for public drunkenness following an incident at 1:59 a.m. Saturday on West Fourth Street.
Mount Carmel Borough Police Officer Jason Drumheller reported that Maxfield was observed staggering in the 00 block of West Fourth Street, and on multiple occasions stopped and attempted to regain his balance. While he was stopped, police say his body swayed side to side. Maxfield smelled strongly of alcohol, according to police.
The citation was filed through Magisterial District Judge Hugh Jones of Mount Carmel.
One-vehicle accident
UPPER AUGUSTA TOWNSHIP - A Coal Township teen was injured in a one-vehicle crash at 10:52 p.m. on Sunbury Street.
State police at Stonington report that a 2000 Toyota Camry, driven by Scott Stefanowicz, 16, of Coal Township, was traveling east on Sunbury Street when the Camry began to travel out of control on the wet roadway. Stefanowicz's vehicle traveled off the roadway and struck a traffic sign, a ditch and a tree. It then rolled onto its side and came to a resting position.
Stefanowicz suffered moderate injuries in the crash and police cited him for failure to drive a vehicle at a safe speed.
DUI charges filed
ATLAS - Mount Carmel Township Police charged Joanne Kjiewski, 51 of 538 W. Second St., Mount Carmel, with driving under the influence, careless driving, and driving on roadways not laned for traffic following an accident on Oct. 18 at 12:10 p.m.
Police reported that Kjiewski was involved in an accident at the Choice Cigarette Store on Route 61 outside of Atlas and was taken to Shamokin Area Community Hospital for evaluation and blood testing. The test was positive for Oxycodone.
The charges were filed with Magisterial District Judge Hugh Jones of Mount Carmel with a preliminary hearing scheduled for Dec. 16.
Retail theft
MOUNT CARMEL - Borough Police Officer Justin Stelma cited Courtney Smith, 29, of Mount Carmel, for retail theft, following a gas drive off at 2:15 p.m. on Nov. 3.
Police say that Smith had come into the store 30 minutes prior to the incident and purchased some items and was noticed for her clothing. Later that afternoon, police say Smith pulled up to the gas pumps, pumped $15.04 of gas and then left without paying.
Simple assault
RIVERSIDE - Brian S. Webb, 31, of Riverside, was charged with simple assault following an incident at a home at D and H avenues at 5:25 a.m. on Tuesday.
State police at Stonington report that Webb got into an altercation with a female and struck her, breaking her tooth. Police say that as Webb was being arrested, he removed two bags containing marijuana from his pocket.
Webb was arraigned before Magisterial District Judge Carl Rice of Sunbury and placed in Northumberland County prison on $25,000 bail.
DUI charges filed
KULPMONT - Felix Coronel, 38, of 713 Scott St., Kulpmont, was charged with driving under the influence following a traffic stop on Route 61 in Kulpmont at 1:26 a.m. on Sept. 19.
Coronel was charged by Patrolman Shane D. Reamer of Kulpmont Borough Police after he was reported to be swerving onto the berm several times. Blood chemical testing showed his alcohol level to be .183 percent at the time of the stop.
The charges were filed in the office of Magisterial District Judge Hugh Jones of Mount Carmel. A preliminary hearing on the matter is scheduled for Dec. 16.
Criminal mischief
MOUNT CARMEL - A 15-year-old Mount Carmel male was cited for criminal mischief after breaking a window on a vehicle in the area of Second and Walnut streets at 8:30 p.m. on Nov. 2.
The male was throwing rocks at his friend when he threw one and smashed a window on a 2009 Ford Escape. The youth told police that he was throwing the rocks and struck something, but was unsure of what was hit.
Estimated cost of the damage was $228.91.
Bad checks
ELYSBURG - Rose M. Longenberger, 26, of 734 S. Front St., Apt. 4, Sunbury, was charged with bad checks and theft by deception by Ralpho Township Police patrolman Chris Kreisher after writing a bad check in the amount of $12 to Miller's Gas and Oil on Aug. 28.
