Aggravated assault
SUNBURY - A Sunbury couple were charged and the woman jailed after a domestic incident early Friday.
Angela Buch, 33, of 404 Comfort Road, and Shaun Yuhas, 31, of 378 Mountain View Road, became involved in physical altercation at 12:05 a.m., with Buch allegedly hitting Yuhas over the head with a glass mug and threatening to shoot him with a shotgun, state police at Stonington said. Yuhas allegedly knocked Buch to the ground and choked her, according to police.
Both were transported via ambulance to Sunbury Community Hospital, where they were treated and released.
Police charged Buch with aggravated assault, terroristic threats, simple assault, recklessly endangering another person and harassment. She was arraigned before Magisterial District Judge Carl Rice and committed to Northumberland County Prison in lieu of $50,000 bail. Yuhas was charged with harassment.
Police said the incident occurred at a residence at Comfort Road and Buch's Hollow Road in Rockefeller Township.
One-vehicle crash
LITTLE MAHANOY TOWNSHIP - No one was injured in a one-vehicle crash at 10:04 a.m. Sunday on Route 225 near State Road in Little Mahanoy Township.
State police at Stonington said a 1991 Ford Escort coupe, driven by Misty Lynn Ferster, 22, of 1124 Cherrytown Road, Dornsife, was traveling south on Route 225 when her vehicle left the road. The Escort struck a utility pole before skidding approximately 75 yards along the west berm.
Ferster, who was wearing her seat belt, was not injured in the crash. Her vehicle had severe damage and was towed from the scene.
Police said their investigation continues.
'Saturation' patrol
NORTHUMBERLAND - Borough police on Friday engaged in a "saturation patrol operation" in the area of Front and Duke streets due to what they said were numerous fights and other disturbance calls in "downtown bar areas," Chief Timothy A. Fink reported.
They were assisted by Point Township Police and the Northumberland County Probation and Parole department.
Arrests were made as follows: public drunkenness, 4; driving under the influence, 1; disorderly conduct, 1; flight to avoid prosecution, 1; resisting arrest, 1; traffic violations, 4, and parking tickets, 3.
Driver critical
TREMONT - Two women were injured in a one-car crash at 12:45 a.m. Sunday on Molleystown Road.
State police at Schuylkill Haven said the crash occurred as a 2000 Ford Focus driven by Ashley Koperna, 18, of Tower City, was traveling westbound when, for an unknown reason, the vehicle entered the eastbound lane and began to exit the road when Koperna corrected her steering and the vehicle began to spin clockwise, re-entering the westbound lane and finally leaving the road and hitting and severing a utility pole.
Koperna and a front-seat passenger, Kelly McKleen, 20, of Tamaqua, were extricated from the vehicle and flown via Life Lion to Penn State Milton S. Hershey Medical Center, Hershey.
Koperna was listed in critical condition and McKleen in serious condition by hospital personnel Sunday night.
