Trevorton man hurt

WAYNE TOWNSHIP - Francis R. Bartley Jr., 45, of Trevorton, suffered multiple injuries in a one-car accident Sunday afternoon along Route 183 in this Schuylkill County township, approximately one-half mile north of Berks County.

State police at Schuylkill Haven reported Bartley was driving a 2001 Chevrolet Cavalier Z24 north at 2:35 p.m. toward Summit Station when he became distracted while attempting to adjust the sun visor in his car as he approached a bend in the road.

Police said the car then struck a raised concrete median and crossed over into the southbound lane before flipping over onto the passenger side and landing on its roof. The car then traveled approximately 46 feet before coming to rest.

The car sustained severe damage.

An investigation is continuing.

Two-vehicle accident

RANSHAW - Two people, including a three-month-old boy, were injured in a two-vehicle accident Sunday night on Route 61 near this Coal Township village.

Coal Township police reported Matthew Thomas, 27, of Coal Township, was driving a 1997 Geo coupe south on Route 61 when his car collided with a 2009 Mazda being operated by Cynthia Bauer, 41, of New Derry, who also was traveling south before pulling off the side of the road at the exit to Ranshaw and attempting to make a U-turn to travel north.

Thomas' girlfriend, Demi Ayala of Coal Township, and his three-month-old son suffered injuries in the 6:07 p.m. accident and were transported by ambulance to Shamokin Area Community Hospital, where they underwent emergency room treatment before being released.

Two passengers in Bauer's vehicle, Melissa Jones, 38, and Brittanie Jones, 19, both of New Derry, escaped injury as did both drivers.

Both vehicles sustained moderate damage and were towed from the scene.

Police said Bauer will be cited for careless driving.

Car hits deer

UPPER AUGUSTA TOWNSHIP - State police at Stonington reported a car struck a deer Monday morning along Route 61 in this Northumberland County township.

Police said Sean R. Bannon, 39, of Selinsgrove, was driving a 2005 Ford Mustang south shortly after 5 a.m. when a deer ran into the path of his car. Bannon applied his brakes in an attempt to avoid a collision, but the front end of his vehicle struck the deer, causing it to be thrown across the highway before coming to rest on the east fog line. Police said the deer was killed.

Bannon, who was wearing a seat belt, escaped injury.

DUI

NEW CASTLE TOWNSHIP - State police at Frackville reported Everett P. Metcalf, 35, of Girardville, will be charged with driving under the influence of alcohol relating to an incident that occurred at 2:10 a.m. Sunday along Route 61 in this Schuylkill County township.

Police reported Metcalf's 1996 Dodge Ram truck was spotted by police parked along the east berm of Route 61 with its engine running. Upon speaking with Metcalf, police detected a strong odor of alcohol on his breath. Metcalf was taken by police to the state police station at Frackville for a breath test.

Police also reported Kevin Schwalm, 38, of Girardville, a passenger in Metcalf's truck, was cited for public drunkenness for allegedly urinating along the passenger side of the vehicle.

DUI charges

SHAMOKIN - Roger A. Dobson Jr., 38, of 840 W. Holly St., Coal Township, has been charged by Patrolman Scott Weaver with two counts of driving under the influence of alcohol, a stop sign violation and driving at an unsafe speed in connection with incidents that occurred Oct. 17 at Sixth and Arch streets, and Second and Arch streets.

Police reported Dobson had a blood-alcohol content of .193 percent.
