Burglary, assault in Schuylkill

SHENANDOAH HEIGHTS - Joseph J. Yuelling, 40, of Shenandoah, has been charged by state police at Frackville with burglary, simple assault, terroristic threats and violating a protection from abuse order involving incidents that occurred at 3:30 a.m. Saturday at 296 Florida Ave.

Police reported Yuelling entered the home of Bernadette Chesonis, 39, and Thomas Kessler, 41, by cutting a window screen to a second-floor bedroom. Police said Chesonis then spotted Yuelling inside the home and contacted family members. Yuelling then jumped onto the roof and attempted to flee before punching Kessler in the head with his fist, police said. Yuelling was then sprayed in the face with pepper spray by Chesonis and held at bay until police arrived and took him into custody.

Yuelling was committed to Schuylkill County Prison in Pottsville in lieu of $55,000 bail.
