Rescue truck accident
SHAMOKIN - Police here are continuing their investigation of an accident Thursday afternoon involving a Coal Township emergency vehicle and a parked car in the 100 block of South Pearl Street.
Chief of Police Edward Griffiths reported Andrew Hauer, 26, of 869 W. Spruce St., Coal Township, was driving a Coal Township Rescue Squad 193 truck south on Pearl Street at about 3:45 p.m. when the vehicle struck a parked Chevrolet Cavalier owned by Barbara Pawelczyk, of 136 S. Pearl St., Shamokin. Both vehicles sustained minor damage.
Police said the rescue squad truck was responding to a minor stove fire at 391 S. Harrison St., Shamokin, when the crash occurred.
Sobriety checkpoints
COAL TOWNSHIP - The North Central Highway Safety Network's Regional DUI Enforcement Group and Coal Township police announced roving patrols or sobriety checkpoints started Monday and will be conducted through Monday, March 22, on Routes 61, 225, 125, 54, 487 and 901 or other connecting roadways to local municipalities.
Travelers are reminded to report drunk drivers by dialing 911. To report underage drinking, call 1-888-under-21.
The patrols and checkpoints are funded through the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation and National Highway Safety Administration.
Theft of leased property
SHAMOKIN - A Shamokin woman and a Williamstown woman have been charged with theft of leased property relating to separate incidents at Lightning Rent-to-Own on East Sunbury Street.
Phyllis Reichenbach, 36, of 914 E. Commerce St., Shamokin, was charged with entering into a lease purchase agreement with Lightning Rent-to-Own on Sept. 11 and Nov. 14 to purchase merchandise totaling $1,738.90 that she failed to pay for or return.
Amie Delgado, 28, of Williamstown, was charged with entering into a lease purchase agreement with Lightning Rent-to-Own on Oct. 8 to purchase merchandise totaling $658.79 that she failed to pay for or return.
The private criminal complaints were filed by Terra L. Gordner of Lightning Rent-to-Own.
Drug charge
SHAMOKIN - Louis M. Block, 19, of 318 N. Rock St., Shamokin, was charged by Patrolman Bryan Primerano with possession of drug paraphernalia relating to a March 9 incident at his residence.
DUI charge
SHAMOKIN TOWNSHIP - Wasil M. Bakowicz, 52, of 201 W. Mulberry St., Apt. 207, Shamokin, was charged by Trooper Kevin Haines with two counts of driving under the influence of alcohol, failure to wear a seat belt and driving with a suspended registration relating to a Jan. 31 incident at the intersection of Route 61 and Hosta Road in Shamokin Township.
Police reported Bakowicz had a blood-alcohol content of .095 percent.
Keys found
COAL TOWNSHIP - A set of keys for a Ford vehicle was recently found and turned over to Coal Township police. The owner of the keys can contact police at 644-0333.
